We don’t just rate cannabis. We verify it — with open methodology, hardware-controlled testing, and total editorial independence.
GoldenCalyx was born out of a critical observation of the global medical cannabis supply chain. During a consulting engagement, our founder witnessed firsthand the systemic failures that occur when a lack of training meets a lack of oversight.
In one instance, a facility unwittingly co-cultivated and mixed distinct Sativa and Indica strains, exporting them as a single product to unsuspecting patients. In other cases, supply shortages led to the sourcing of third-party flower that resulted in major recalls, or product contaminated with mold due to improper drying and curing in unvented shipping containers.
These failures weren’t just operational; they were ethical. Patients deserve consistent, high-quality medicine, and the industry deserves a system that rewards integrity.
With over a decade of expertise in commercial cannabis cultivation and global compliance, and a decade of leadership in the technology sector, our Co-Founders — husband and wife — joined forces to solve this problem. We built a platform that acts as the industry’s “Source of Truth.”
Scores are determined by our standardized protocol, not by commercial relationships. We disclose or recuse in any case where a potential conflict exists.
Transparency is our core. Our methodology is open-source because we believe that when the industry knows how to judge quality, everyone is forced to improve. Read the methodology →
To ensure every evaluation is repeatable and fair, we use a strict, unvarying protocol for every facility and every sample.
All product photography is captured within a standardized photo box to eliminate lighting bias. Micro-photography is performed using the same high-resolution scope for every sample.
Our Smoke Test is strictly controlled using Ultra-thin 1 1/4 Elements rice rolling paper, a hand-rolled filter, and a standard plastic grinder — so flavor and burn are never influenced by hardware variables.
GoldenCalyx operates as an independent quality-verification entity. To maintain the integrity of our Verified Quality Scores and ensure the trust of the global medical community, we adhere to the following Conflict of Interest protocols.
A facility's score is determined solely by our standardized GACP/GMP-aligned metrics and our strict testing protocols. Our evaluation process is decoupled from any commercial interest in the outcome of a rating.
Any ancillary services — such as training, advisory, or consulting — are operated separately from the rating platform. Participation in those services does not guarantee a specific rating on GoldenCalyx; the platform measures output, not participation.
To prevent gatekeeping, our rating methodology is open-source. We provide the industry with the “how” and “why” behind every score. If a score is low, we provide the data-driven path to improvement, fostering a cycle of continuous quality elevation rather than a closed-loop system of favoritism.
In the event that a project presents a potential conflict of interest — such as a prior deep-level partnership or familial connection — GoldenCalyx will formally recuse the interested party from the rating process or clearly disclose the nature of the relationship alongside the score.
